BLUES IN SCHOOLS
Blues in Schools is a pioneering educational charity that aims to change children’s lives by teaching them how to cook and eat healthily. We equip them with the skills, knowledge and confidence to make informed choices about what they eat. The result is a lasting positive impact on their health and their family’s economic well being.
We work specifically with children who have special needs, from severe behavioural, social and emotional difficulties to autism and Down’s syndrome. Many of the children we work with have had a tough start in life and are often disadvantaged socially and economically.
We give children the opportunity to learn and master new practical skills. Achieving fast and successful results makes time spent in the kitchen enjoyable which boosts self esteem and gives children a more positive attitude to learning.
The Blues in Schools curriculum is designed to engage children with the learning process and enable them to gain new skills. All our lessons in the kitchen are linked into lessons in the classroom and all lesson plans are themed by main stream subjects. At the same time they are able to find out about healthy eating and what makes up a balanced diet.
